OECD Global Forum calls for more investment in water and sanitation

Water management is a challenge for both OECD and developing countries. Though the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) call for the proportion of people without access to safe water and basic sanitation to be halved by 2015, many countries are not on track to meet these goals. Amid fears that the financial crisis would result in an aid crisis, OECD donors recently made an Aid Pledge, promising to honour their aid commitments, including the water-related MDGs.

Annual inflation in OECD area drops to 3.7% in October 2008

Consumer prices in the OECD area rose by 3.7% in the year to October 2008, compared with 4.5% in the year to September 2008. Month-on-month, prices fell 0.3% in October, after remaining stable in September.

Financial crisis: Save our savings

Amid the worst current financial crisis since the 1930s, EU leaders have pledged to protect savers’ deposits. Already most OECD countries have explicit deposit insurance schemes for savings up to certain limits. In a number of countries these have now been raised temporarily.
