Statistical Analysis of Science, Technology and Industry

The DSTI manages databases of internationally comparable statistics in the areas of science, technology and industry. These statistics and indicators underpin policy-related analytical work, particularly with respect to links between technology, competitiveness and globalisation. DSTI also plays a leading role in the development of international statistical standards in the STI area.

The Geography of Inventive Activities in OECD Regions

This new working paper reflects an initial analysis employing a pioneering new OECD database. It is among the first systematic attempts to analyse comparatively the distribution of innovative activity across regions in OECD economies with a set of homogenous measures for both input and output in the process of knowledge production and dissemination.

STAN Database for STructural ANalysis update

New STAN tables have been added for five countries. The November 2008 version provides data for 26 countries, of which six with time series up to 2007. Tables for other countries will be added as they become available.

Presentation of the OECD "REGPAT" database

This database presents patent data linked to regions according to the addresses of the applicants and inventors. The data have been regionalised at a very detailed level so that over 2000 regions are covered across OECD countries. REGPAT allows patent data to be used in connection with other regional data, thus providing researchers with the means to develop a rich set of new indicators and undertake a broad range of analyses to address the regional dimension of innovation.
