Official visit of the Secretary-General to South Africa (Pretoria - Johannesburg, 15 July 2008)

During his official visit to South Africa, OECD Secretary-General Angel Gurría met in Pretoria with:

  • Mr. Thabo Mvuyelwa Mbeki, President of the Republic of South Africa
  • Mrs. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa
  • Mr. Trevor Manuel, Minister of Finance
  • Mrs Naledi Pandor, Minister of Education
  • Mr. Membathisi Mphumzi Shepherd Mdladlana, Minister of Labour
  • Representatives from the National Economic Development and Labour Council (NEDLAC)
  • Mr. Kgalema Motlanthe, Deputy President and Mr. Gwede Mantashe, Secretary General of the African National Congress (ANC)
  • Mr. Lesetja Kganyago, Director-General, Treasury


They discussed the country's economic situation and prospects, notably during a workshop devoted to the first's OECD Economic assessment of South Africa. Mr. Gurría also held a joint press conference in Johannesburg with the Minister of Finance, for the release of the Economic Assessment (read Gurría's speech).
